Following her disqualification from the gold medal bout at the Paris Olympics 2024, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been hospitalised due to dehydration. The IOA revealed that Phogat exceeded the permissible weight limit of 50kg for her category at the Paris Summer Games. They requested privacy to support Phogat during this challenging period. Reports indicate that the Indian Olympic Association lodged a complaint with the International Olympic Committee regarding the decision to disqualify Phogat from the gold medal match against Sarah Hildebrandt of the USA.

Vinesh Phogat, a 29-year-old wrestler from Haryana, had her hopes of winning her maiden Olympic gold dashed due to this disqualification. Not only did she lose the opportunity to compete for gold, but she also became ineligible to claim the assured silver medal. After her disqualification, Phogat suffered from dehydration and was rushed to the hospital. It was reported that she had not slept the entire night after qualifying for the final and was trying hard to shed the extra weight to remain eligible for her match.

Phogat gained 2kg after competing in three bouts and attempted to lose it overnight to stay within the 50kg limit. Unfortunately, during the weigh-in on Wednesday, she was found to be 100 grams over the limit, leading to her disqualification from the final. This disqualification ended her remarkable campaign at the Paris Olympics in heartbreak.
